CARV: Alamo Call-a-Ride 4 Vets

FREE Transportation for Veterans, Spouses, Widows, and Widowers. 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE? An eligible person who has served in the US military, immediate family (spouse, under 18, or disabled adult living with the veteran) or Surviving Spouse who is in need of transportation (even just once). 

WHERE CAN I GO? The rides can be utilized for virtually any purpose within our 13 county Alamo region including: Doctor visits (not just to the VA), grocery needs, government office, trips to a senior center or community agency, FREE VIA bus passes also available.  

HOW DOES IT WORK? 
-Eligible person requests ride by calling 210-362-5254 or 1-800-960-5201 or email vetrides@aacog.com
-AACOG Staff assists the rider with: information needed to provide the ride (NO forms to fill out), verifying eligibility through VA ID or military Service documents
-Rider is approved and provided contact number for transportation provider in their area or assistance in scheduling a ride (allow 7-10 days to prior to ride request) 
-If eligible, ride is FREE (number of rides allowed is based on funding)

Free Rides for Veterans Every Day Alamo Call-a-Ride 4 Vets serves Veterans and Spouses!

Transportation can be a challenging barrier for many in accessing benefits and services in the Alamo region.  In support of mobility option for our community,  AACOG has partnered with the Texas Veterans Commission to provide free rides to Veterans and their immediate family members.  

 

Program Highlights:

1)      The program is at NO COST to the Veteran or family members and available to persons of any age and income level.

2)      Rides can be provided for a variety of purposes – medical appointments, VA appointments, social activities, family activities, etc.

2)    Veterans,  family members (spouses, children under 18, adult dependent children), and Surviving Spouses (widows/widowers) are all eligible for services.

3)    Even if a Veteran is not in need of ride assistance presently, if they rely on others for transportation they may wish to register NOW for the program in the case of their normal ride falling through.

4)    The program serves Veteran clients in the 13-county AACOG region: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, McMullen, Medina,  and Wilson.

5)    The program operates Monday through Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM (excluding holidays). No ride requests can be accepted after-hours. Five to seven days is requested if possible for scheduling rides.
