Training: Improving Quality of Life for People with IDD

Improving Quality of Life for People with IDD: Infusing Trauma Informed Care and Positive Identity Development into Existing Supports

Hill Country IDD Regional Support Team has joined with the Hill Country MHDD Centers Trauma Informed Care Services Department and the Alamo Area Council of Governments to provide "Improving the Quality of Life for People with IDD: Infusing Trauma Informed Care and Positive Identity Development into Existing Supports" training in four locations during the months of June and July, 2017.

Although every one is welcome, this training is designed specifically for people who support individuals with IDD, but are not therapists (family members, service coordinators, teachers, nurses, etc.). The training includes the use of multiple tools developed by nationally recognized expert in IDD treatment, Karyn Harvey, PhD, to teach core concepts that lead to happier lives (and fewer problem behaviors). The skills taught in this training can be applied to all people. A section on self-care and caregiver resiliency is also included in this training.
